Physics pressure questions. Can anyone help?
A square manway, 800mm x 800mm is located in the side of a vertical cylindrical storage vessel. The vessel is 8m tall and 8m diameter. It contains a liquid with a relative density of 0.75 which is overflowing from the top of the tank. The bottom of the manway is 500mm from the bottom of the tank. What load is the liquid putting on the manway?

I would like to ask a question about evolution.?
I want to take a common animal like the giraffe. The giraffe stands 19 feet tall, and has a heart 2 feet long in order to pump the blood up it’s long neck, producing a blood pressure in excess of 200psi. The problem occurs when the giraffe has to lower it’s head in order to take a drink. Without an elaborate series of valves in the giraffes neck, everytime the giraffe lowered it’s neck, the pressure would be so great, the blood vessels would burst. Could anyone explain to me how these valves developed gradually over long periods of time using evolution.
Personally, I believe that God created the giraffe with fully functioning valves. But those of you who believe in evolution, how would you explain the evolutionary development of those valve. Like I said, if those valves aren’t fully functioning, everytime the giraffe lowered it’s head, it would die. And I want to point out one other fact: Dead giraffes can’t evolve.

The giraffe did not evolve these elaborate physiological mechanisms. They were already present in an ancestor of the giraffe, the okapi (giraffes and okapis derived from a common ancestor). So even though this physiology was of little use to okapis (as far as we know), it made it possible for the evolution of the giraffe – giraffes were preadapted and the physiology was an exaptation.
Evolution can only work with what’s already available; body parts don’t just magically appear. A giraffe has the same number of vertebrae as a human does, so does every mammal. It would be much easier on giraffes to have more vertebrae, like birds do, but giraffes aren’t birds; their bodies are a reflection of their evolutionary history. So we only have giraffes, and giraffes are they way they are because of okapis and Samotheria and the rest of their evolutionary line of descent.
So, why did okapis evolve this elaborate valve system? I don’t know – but I know there’s a reasonable, science-based answer out there, whether it’s discovered or not.
