Are steam cleanings OK for use with laminate floors?
I have seen some new products on the market. They are small specialty steam cleaners for use on hardwood and ceramic floors. I have a lot of laminate in my home. Are these good products to consider for my floors?
Not good for your floor. As you can imagine, the steam is absolutely red hot and it will warp your floor. Buy special cleaning fluid which is sold in stores like Wilkinsons.

6. Never buy on an impulse check the cost of laminate flooring as also the cost of shipping, warranties, and insurance.
7. If the difference in rate is marginal choose to buy laminates from a source located close to your home. This will be advantageous in case of problems.
8. Check the AC rating of the laminate you wish to buy. The AC rating indicates the durability level of the laminate floor. The AC rating is assigned to laminate flooring by the EPLF or European Producers of Laminate Flooring. The rates for laminate will vary according to its AC rating.
9. Chose flooring for each room based on moisture, footfall, and more. When buying laminates build in costs for installing different grades of laminate in each room.
When setting out to buy laminate flooring you need to include cost of installation too unless you are planning to install the flooring yourself. Costs of installation would include costs of shifting furniture, removing old flooring, preparation of subfloor, installation and accessories instillation.
So when budgeting for laying down a laminate floor create a complete budget and include the party too!

John Taylor’s site has some pretty good videos on installing laminate floors yourself. John’s an experienced hand in custom flooring and his video series is an A-Z expert site for laminate floor installation.
Laminates are durable, easy to clean (and maintain) plus their finish is comparable to hardwood floors. Warranties on laminate floors are 10-20 years so yes, they’re a long-value investment.
