What is the use of the little white cotton-like ring which come with my cello string?
I bought a Pirastro cello string recently. And in the pack, in addition to the string, there is a black tube-like thing and a white cotton ring-like thing. What are they? What’s their uses?
The cotton ring is often used for the same purpose as the black plastic tube. In the case of the black tube, it is slipped over the string so that the string doesn’t cut into the bridge, the cotton ring can be placed directly on the bridge and the string placed over it. Really depends on your instrument and how it reacts to the individual items. In some cases one may dampen the sound more than the other.

Not only are the incredibly comfortable (I could live in these) but they are easy to move in, which is nice because really, who needs something constricting when trying to do stretches and such?!?

Why do my white 100% cotton sheets say not to bleach?
I thought that’s practically what bleach was made for… to clean white cotton. I really think these sheets need a thorough cleaning and I wanted to soak them in bleach. But the tag says not to use bleach on them. Why? I’ve never seen this on sheets before…
Soaking them in bleach will weaken the fabric. The same tag is sewn into all the makers’ sheets no matter what color. Just use bleach in the washing machine with the sheets.
